Hip hop music magazine evaluation

 1)   In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media product?

my front cover page                                                     music magazine cover	The things that I used comparing to other magazine front cover page are mostly the way the font Is bold and also the colours. As I thought that would make my magazine look very professional and stand out. As the colour red for the font really stands outs and the creates a excellent effect on the magazine. The picture made the poses look more like hip hop.	The things I developed will include adding background to the text, so the font will stand out more on the page also so the magazine doesn't look very dull and have lots of bright colours. This will also link in with the idea of my target audience will want more bright colours on any type of teenage magazine	Putting everything in a different position and adding different colours to make the magazine stand out from the rest of the magazine. These colours include, black, white, red, blue and pink.
my content page                                                  magazine content page	Used the idea of adding different picture on to the page and the layout of the text on the page, also used some of the idea of putting the headline on to a background shape, as I used a  black rectangle shape to be the background of the headline.	Putting the pictures in a different position instead of putting them together also used Variety of colours and made the page very eye-catching as there were lots of different colours included. There are lots of information included what is going to be included in the magazine. It say “comin up” and not content, makes it very different to others.	Cropped out one of the image to make it different to other, not all the images have background on them. This shows I challenged other magazine I used as a example and made it very different. Also I made the text go across the page, to make it very eye-catching and clear as it uses background as well.
my double page spread                      Magazine double page spread	For the double page I used the layout of the text from other magazine, as it is all placed in a specific way and also this makes the page look very neat. i used the idea of highlighting the main question to make it stand out more on the page  I also used the idea of putting quote right next to the image, which makes it look very important as it is a different colour.	Things that I developed include adding lots of bright colour to the text to make it stand out more on the page. Adding background to the page and not just leaving it plan white	Putting the image is on both pages instead of just placing it on one page and also put the text on top of the image and made it stand out. Adding a good effect on the headline to stand out more on the page and also made it very eye-catching.

    2)  How does your media product represent particular social groups? 

  

  I chose person from as young more of gangster social group to be my role model of the magazine. So it link in

  with the idea of the hip hop genre of music and also will give a good effect on the magazine.

  

  The mise-en-scene used

  Posture – I make sure my model artist for the music magazine is standing up and has a good posture which

  gives the audience a good effect about the magazine and the artist. The artist is looking forward, directly at the

  camera, that show attention towards the audience.

   

  Framing – the framing of the images that I used for my music magazine, is very loose as the artist has a

  comfortable space as I used a medium shots as we can see most parts of the body

  

  Pose – Made sure that the poses all links in with the idea of hip hop and also made sure that the entire image

  has a good attitude to represent the hip hop music.

  Examples of these poses that I took 

  

  Finical expression –  made sure that they the artist has the

  attitude on the face to represent hip hop and the attitude

  behind the music that give a good affect on the magazine.

  Costume – t-shirt, with skinny jeans, making sure that is

  suited to the idea of hip hop

  

  Location – the location that I chose my images to be

  taken is at my house, with a blank white background

  

  Props – microphone to make the artist look like they are singing, which also links in with the idea of music

  artist, headphones. 

  3)  What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? 

  Media institutions that will distribute my media product:

 Bauer media:

This is because it reaches over 19 million UK adults across multiply media and adding a hip-hop music

magazine will increase the amount of adults reading Bauer’s media product.

Also because Bauer media has a no hip-hop music magazines on their market, but instead have magazine such as smash hits, Kerrang and Q

So adding a different type of music genre will increase the amount of people reading Bauer’s media product as
it has a worldwide circulation for selling 38 million copies a week in 15 countries.

Bauer Media also has Bauer radio which consists of Heat radio, Q radio, smash Hits! Radio and the hits radio

will are available on DAB and free view. So having a hip hop magazine may encourage them to start a radio

station which broadcast hip-hop music in order for Bauer to increase the number of people viewing their media

via magazine and radio so increase their sales overall. 

 

The genre of the magazine as it is hip hop it Is very suited for the music magazine that I  was capable of doing , as my target audience chose hip hop as one of their best genre that they enjoy most from the rest. (My questionnaire results will show this)

As my audience was young teenage girls everything including the image and the colours on the page gives a good representation of the music magazine to the audience that I was targeting. 

4) Who would be the audience for your media product?

For my magazine I have chosen the young teenager girls as my audience, as there are the most people who love and enjoy reading magazine. Especially a music magazine will be one of the most favorite magazines of my target audience. They enjoy music more and hip hop is something that is a great genre for every teenagers.

This is a audience profile that I done for my magazine to show that target audience of my hip hop music magazine.

This includes lots of information about the audience. For example these will be the type of shops that teenage girls would go to and lots more.

Everything that is included in the reader’s profile:

Enjoy being with friends, listening to music, going to parties and reading books

5)      How did you attract/address you audience?

The ways that I attract the audience include the different colours that the magazine is used; it’s very attractive as it links in with the idea of young teenage girls are more into different and bright colours.

These colours that the magazine mostly uses include: yellow, type of gold colour, black, white and more 
The fonts are very bold and stand out, as the colour red on the headline on front page, the content page and the double page spread looks very attractive all over the magazine

There also other text that was included on the magazine, which had Variety of fonts and colours that will attract my target audience as the main information’s will stand out more
The poses gives a hip hop effect on all the images that I used for the magazine as it shows the audience that they would expect those type of poses on the image, when looking at a hip hop music magazine.

The text are very bold and links with other type of hip hop magazine text that we will expect to see, the fonts are very clear and easy to read, has bright colours which makes it stand out on the pages for example the text on the double page spread.

  6) What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Throughout the process of making music magazine I have learnt many new skills which I will be using in later life. As I am not the best of all at using technology, doing this task helped me expand my knowledge and get a brief idea of how to use the programs, edit and enhance images and successfully produce a good hip hop magazine which appeal to my target audience, young teenage girls.

Photoshop the main technology that I used to make all my pages

I learned a lot about this technology and the ways to use Photoshop through the process of designing my music magazine and learnt how to use most of the tools that will help me to create the pages.

• The magic wand tool selects similarly colored area
• The crop tool trims images
• The eraser tool 
• The type tools create type on an image- create my headline, the text

• The paint bucket tool - fills similarly colored areas with the foreground colour, add colours to everything 

cropped by using the lasso tool, the magic wand tool and also the eraser tool to get rid of the background and used lots of different Photoshop technique to build up the images to a good position

I also used online resources to work my way through the Photoshop for example looked up on YouTube some tips to get started with photoshop and the way to use some of the tools.

Using the amazing professional camera I learned a lot 

of taking quality images, the camera was a privilege, 

I have always loved taking images, I got to explore the 

world of photography, with the use of my prior

 knowledge such as high and low different camera angles, 

shots, key lighting. 

ICT skills- by doing this task I was able to build up my ICT skills, and used different websites such as “blogger” using a blog was new experience for me and also something that helps me expand my knowledge and brings a new challenge. Blogger allowed me to make posts and create pages expressing my work in new        forms of media such as uploading presentations and by using slideshare,

 I could embed the PowerPoint like the ones on my blog.

  7)      Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? (technical skills, genre and media language)

Looking back at my preliminary task I feel that this experience was a work in process, from which I learnt many new skills throughout and developed my understanding and my current knowledge about the production of music magazine and the everything that behind of making a excellent magazine. Also I learned about the social group certain magazine appeal to and why, how to attract a specific audience through the research and planning I had to do at the beginning of this task, in order to make my music magazine successful.

I have taken on board feedback from others, which I got after making the school magazine, and given out questionnaires for my research on music magazine, I believe I have  progressed a long way, in the completing of my finished media products. I  also have a stronger knowledge and understanding an programs such as Adobe Photoshop Cs3, and I know how to update my blog, and edit new post and create pages also, I also know how to upload works. 

Some of the knowledge I developed include:

Images used

The reasons that I used these images on my pages, 

because they all link in with the idea of hip hop, as

 all the poses have a good effect on music magazine.

The first image I used for my front cover as I like

 the pose of the image, because it shows a style

 of hip hop music and it is something that would be 

expected to see on a music magazine. Also has the type

 of attitude towards hip hop, the way the artist is looking forward,

 catches the audience attention.  The second picture was one of the

 images that I used for my content page as it gives a different look to the page as all the images are not the same. 

The third picture was used for the double page, I selected this one because it had a 

different on the image and also it will stand out more as the texts have bright colours. 

It will also allow the text to stand out on the page, so the audience will be able to read the 

text more and get lots of information about the artist.

The last image is another image that I used for my content page,

 as it will link in with idea of music and represent the artist.

The first image is what I deiced to use at the beginning of the process of making the double page spread, but I thought it was not the type of pose that I was looking for to be on a hip hop magazine, so I decided to choose another picture instead.

The second image that I also was going to put as my front cover page image, but had a feedback to put an another picture as it looks very childish and not something that would be expected on a a teenagers magazine, so I decided to choose appropriate image that would bring  the music magazine to link in with the target audience.

I got some feedback from audience about the way i can improve the music magazines cover, content page and the double page spread.

worked on changeing the colour of all the pages for example the red and the other type of colour that on the page already wa not good enough so i changed the fonts and the background kind of into gold yellow colours to link in with the hip hop type of genre.

April 18th 2013

added some bits to the double page spread and content page changeing the layout of it to make it better.

April 19th 2013

posted everything on blogger and made sure that everything is completed and improved.

Interview with Candi Ross

So what it like to be a hip hop artist in the big wide world of fame?

It is different to what I am used to, I miss being a young girl but I am enjoying the new experiences of being a hip hop artist and meeting new people and ideas. It’s wonderful to work with other hip hop artist, and I am very proud of the amount of hard work that I am putting in.

Have you always wanted to be a singer?

Oh. My mum has lots of embarrassing videos singing and always plays them back to me. She said I was talented from a young age. i think that that my parents brought me up to be a singer. The song that I mostly enjoy and I actually sang for is for my mum and dad, to show the respect for making me a better person in live and giving me a good future. 

At the moment, where are you favourite places to shop? People are so in love with your fashion.

My favourite shops that I love to get my fashionable clothes are mainly from new look and next, I love the different fashion that they offer and I love to try on different style of clothes. The clothing range that will be coming up will be the style for summer so I am thinking dresses.

So Candi tell us about your forthcoming album, what can we expect?

I think the album is fun as it is hip hop music, I really enjoyed making it, and it was hard work but my opinion definitely worth it. I just hope people like it enough to buy my album.

I also worked with other hip hop artist for example with jay-Z who helped me through getting my album done. The album is mostly about love to their parents, which will link to boys and girls.

 And also have you have your tours coming up later this year too?

Yeah! It so exciting, I can’t wait to perform live and get to see all my fans. There will be lots of things happening; I am expecting it will be really fun. It will be in UK and in the summer so everyone will have days off to come in see as it is in the holiday.

What can we expect to see?

Ammm hahahaaha! That’s a secret, you’ll have to wait and see

And last of all: so who are your main influence currently in the chart?

Rihanna is one of inspiration from when I was young I found her songs amazing especially the hip hop music, as I love hip hop myself.  I find her songs very engaging and something that motivates me to get into the hip hop world.

First of all before starting to design the music magazine we need to do so much research to find out more about the how the magazine is going to be introduced to the target audience.  These include analysing different pages that is included in the magazine for example the main cover, context page and the double page spread. This will allow me to get a brief idea of all the pages that I am going to include in the music magazine and also shows what kind of things needs to be on the pages, examples will be the type of main image, additional image and text including title subheading, strap lines etc.

Moreover we will be expected to do questionnaire on survey monkey that allows me to understand my target audience better about what type of genre music that they will be interested in and will allow me to plan the type of music magazine I need to design. Also need to fill up a proposal form to make sure that we are sure about the target audience, what type of genre is chosen and how the main picture is going to be taken, the magazine name and more.

Then we are allowed to move on to actually doing the design of the front cover, and getting all the pictures that needs to put on the pages including main and additional images.

A cover page with everything that will be included in the magazine for example main story, and other stories that will be shown to give a brief introduction of the magazines information that will be provided to the target audience.

Last of all we also need to design an audience profile page that will be included in the magazine, need to add images that will be suited for the target audience and make it into collage and also a text about the things that the audience will be interested in.

Music Magazine Proposal Form

Target audience: (age range, interests)	My target audience that I am interested in doing is teenagers who are over about 14-17 young female.
Possible title ideas: (masthead / title block) What is your magazine going to be called?	The title that I was thinking to do as it is a hip hop magazine include ‘HH world’ stands for hip hop world
Main image: What will be the focal point of your front page, remember, your work	The main image that I will have is a young girl about 16 with a hip hop dance attitude, or with a hand gesture looking in another direction and not straight at the camera.
Main cover line: What will be the main story?	Hip hop sound for teenagers is better others
Additional key images: What other images will be on your front cover?	A group of hip hop singers, with different position and poses
Additional cover lines: Other features, stories or selling points which will be inside the magazine, these need to be audience appropriate.	Other singers names on the side if the audience don’t enjoy reading about the main singer, other features that will also be included inside the music magazine
Typography: (style, size, colour of copy) Think about the writing and the style of the writing on your front page.	I am going to do bold and bigger size font for the main title and others for example subheading will be smaller and fitted to the pages.
Background colour/image: What will be in the background, remember you don’t want to take the focus away from the main image.	Background colour will be light purple or pink mixed with white background, or a background image that will be suitable for my target audience.
Technical considerations: (equipment, setting, props, costume, lighting) Be realistic and creative, think about what you have access to and how you could use it.	The setting will be in a room with a plan background with will allow me to crop the background easily, and lighting form the lights in the room. The costume will be linked to him hop with for example a t-shirt, skirt or jogging bottoms and jewellery that will be suitable for hip hop.
2 Page Spread: (what will be the main article in your magazine?) This will need to be the main story on your cover, what detail will be featured inside?	Promoting an new album that the singer has introduced to make the audience keep up to date with all the information about new songs coming up.
